Cookies

Only one cookie is used. It stores the user's preference for the site theme; system default, dark, or light. It expires in 30 days, and can be deleted by the user at any time with no important effects. The site will automatically add a new one if it's missing, and its setting can be changed at any time by the user.

IP Address

The IP address of any computer connecting to this site is stored for various times for automatic 'bot' attack protection. If no attack is connected to an IP address, it generally gets deleted in about two weeks. If what appears to be an attack is detected, the IP address can be stored for up to several months, to reduce future attacks.

The IP address is not used for anything else, and no attempt is made to discern its geographic location or who it belongs to, or to connect it with anything.

User Tracking and Analytics

Most websites use analytics to track users and often to connect them to a Google profile, or similar. Google Analytics is considered by many to be extremely invasive, so it is not used on this site.

The only tracking active on this site is a self-hosted deployment of GoatCounter easy web analytics software. This means the data does not go to anyone else's servers. You may wish to read the GoatCounter privacy policy but note that the "Using the GoatCounter.com Service" section does not apply to this website since it's self-hosted. GoatCounter is used to get some idea of how many users are visiting the site, which pages, etc., and some other basic info, none of which can be tied to any user. You can read more on their website, particularly the page explaining why the software developer created GoatCounter.
